Standards, primers and probes were obtained from commercially available kits (Genesig, Primerdesign Ltd., UK). Bacterial targets specific for E. coli, Salmonella spp., Campylobacter jejuni, Enterococcus faecium, Enterococcus faecalis, Vibrio spp. and Shigella spp. were selected (Table S2).
