Primerdesign Launch genesig®PLEX kit for PRRSV EU, US and Highly Pathogenic Strains

Primerdesign has launched a new multiplex qPCR assay for the detection and differentiation of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome Virus (PRRSV). The assay is designed to provide high-sensitivity detection while distinguishing between EU (Type I), North American (Type II) and Highly Pathogenic (HP) strains in a single test. 

PRRSV remains one of the most economically significant viral diseases affecting the global swine industry, causing reproductive failure in sows, increased piglet mortality and reduced growth performance. Rapid and accurate strain identification is critical for effective disease management and outbreak control. 

Primerdesign’s multiplex assay enables sensitive detection of PRRSV while simultaneously differentiating key strain groups, even in mixed infections. This strain-level insight helps laboratories, producers, breeders, livestock companies and veterinary researchers monitor circulating variants more effectively and supports scalable surveillance programmes across pig production systems. 

Unlike conventional PCR or serology approaches that may require multiple tests or provide delayed information, the assay delivers consistent and reliable results within an open-platform end-to-end real-time PCR workflow. The test is designed to integrate easily with the exsig® Mag RapidBead Pro DNA/RNA extraction kit for high-quality starting material. All assay components are shipped at ambient temperatures in lyophilised conditions enabling farm to centralised lab deployment and cost-effective actionable insights. 

By providing accurate strain differentiation in a single assay, the kit supports more proactive disease monitoring and helps the swine industry shift from reactive outbreak response toward earlier intervention and improved PRRSV surveillance strategies.
